Rise of Kingdoms turned eight years old in late August, and Lilith Games marked the occasion the way it usually does: a version update stacked with new commanders, a fresh mechanic, and a full festival calendar of limited-time events. Version 1.1.11 went live August 27, and its effects are still rippling through kingdoms heading into September.
Two new Legendary commanders for cavalry decks
The update's biggest strategic addition is a pair of Legendary commanders, William Marshall and Ivan IV, both built primarily around cavalry play. Adding two commanders to the same troop type at once is a notable choice — it suggests Lilith is either addressing a gap in the current cavalry meta or setting up a new pairing strategy for rally and open-field compositions. Either way, players investing in cavalry-focused kingdoms now have fresh commander combinations to plan around before the next KvK season locks in strategies.
Double Line Formation
Alongside the commanders, 1.1.11 introduced Double Line Formation, a new troop arrangement that grants +10% March Speed when heading toward Barbarians. It's a smaller change than a new commander, but a genuinely useful one for anyone grinding Barbarian forts or chaining kills for farming efficiency — a task players do constantly at every stage of the game.
A week of anniversary content
True to form for Rise of Kingdoms' anniversary updates, 1.1.11 shipped with a broad slate of limited events rather than a single centerpiece activity:
- Arts Festival and ROK Yearbook — cosmetic and reflective/nostalgia-themed activities
- Melon Market — seasonal trading event
- Weapons Training — combat-focused progression event
- Alliance Quiz — cooperative trivia-style event
- Desert Trails — exploration event
- Wonder Circus — festival mini-game content
As with most Rise of Kingdoms events, eligibility and exact scheduling can vary by kingdom age, so players should treat the in-game Event Calendar as the source of truth for their specific server rather than a general announcement date.
Eight years in, Rise of Kingdoms' anniversary formula hasn't changed much — new commanders to chase, a quality-of-life mechanic tucked in alongside them, and a packed events calendar to keep engagement high through the season. What's notable this time is the cavalry-specific double release: if you've been sitting on cavalry troops waiting for a reason to invest, William Marshall and Ivan IV just gave you two.
